Not an instruction manual

October 15, 2024After Hurricane Helene, this novel reads like an instruction manual for living after a disaster. It's like The Walking Dead comic book without the zombies. Rick and his son Carl (who are unnamed) wander through a deserted, depopulated land which has a lot of people in it. To revisit this novel after the Helene disaster is interesting.

October 18, 2021I dont throw the word masterpeice around too often, but yeah, that,.,., Its characters man and boy are traveling the road south surviving the incredibly harsh wasteland after an unspecified apocalyptic event. The writing is so simple, yet powerful as to often move me to near-tears (not necessarily sad tears, but the confusing type for a robot like me). I often find myself stopping after a passage and just ,.,.,. thinking? ,.,.,.feeling? Idk, hard to know the difference sometimes.

June 22, 2017This book is a great example of streaming consciousness. It's hard to put down. McCarthy has a unique way of writing dialog. It is double spaced providing easy reading. Parts of the book are graphic but not quite disturbing. Like other writers that write with streaming consciousness, McCarthy has a way about writing that some how connects neurologically to adapt to the mind instinctively. You will get lost in a apocalyptic world taking you down the road with brilliance and suspense.
